RESTORATIVE YOGA
SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 19th  2:00 - 4:00 PM    $25
Restorative yoga is a nourishing yoga practice that allows the body to experience a deep release of stress and tension. With the use of blankets, bolsters, blocks, and ties, the body is supported in various poses that are held from 5 to 15 minutes.  Deeply healing for all levels of practitioners!       With Amy.

 

YOGA FOR BETTER BONES
SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 26th   1:00-5:00 PM     $50


This workshop has been designed to give anyone with osteoporosis or osteopenia a yoga practice that is both strengthening and safe. Participants will learn how to avoid positions that could make them vulnerable to fracture, and how to improve their flexibility, strength and balance. No previous knowledge of yoga is required. This workshop will be approximately 2/3 movement and 1/3 lecture. Taught by a registered physiotherapist with a special interest in osteoporosis.

 

 

YOGA FOR CHILDBIRTH
SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 26th   6:00-8:00 PM     $25per person/$40 per couple
This workshop is a wonderful way to prepare both you and your birth partner for the journey ahead. The workshop will provide a holistic approach to breathing, toning, partner-assisted yoga postures, relaxing & supportive massage and meditation practices to help with labour.  Birth partners will learn valuable tools to assist their loved one through pregnancy and childbirth. Most important of all, it will be a fun and loving time to bond with each other and your unborn baby.  Yoga creates greater awareness and flexibility, enhances pregnancy, optimizes health, and prepares you for the birth experience. Experience sitting and walking meditation with Zen Teacher Edward Brown, along with some basic chi gung. The topic for the weekend will be "Informed by Feelings". Coming to know what you feel when you feel it. Studying how to work with feelings; how to be informed by feelings energetically, emotionally, in terms of 'knowing in your heart.' Meeting whatever arises with openhearted curiosity and skillfulness. With periods of silence, instructions and talks, and time for questions and answers.

Edward Espe Brown began cooking and practising Zen in 1965, and was ordained as a priest by Shunryu Suzuki Roshi in 1971. He has been head resident teacher at three San Francisco Zen Centres, and has led meditation retreats and cooking classes throughout the United States and Europe. He is the author of The Tassajara Bread Book and editor of Not Always So, a collection of lectures by his teacher Suzuki Roshi. Most recently he appears in a movie How to Cook Your Life, directed by Doris Doerrie,now available on DVD.

This course applies Patanjali's 8 Fold Path of Yoga to the Art of Parenting.  We'll explore these eight timeless principles as guidelines for bringing spiritual awareness into the social context of everyday family issues involving discipline, sibling rivalry, peer pressure, competitive sports and more.This course will be presented as a two-part series. You may do one or both.

 

 

 

NOVEMBER

 

YOGA OF THE BREATH
MONDAYS NOVEMBER 1, 8, & 15   7:30-9:30PM         $25each $65/all 3

The focus of this 3-part series will be to explore ways of opening and
freeing the body for better breathing. Better breathing means
more energy and vitality while the body is active;
it means less tension and stress while the body is resting.
When the body is healthy and at ease, the mind can be calm and relaxed.
 We will cover:
    - anatomy of the breath
    - poses and stretches to release the spine, rib-cage, lungs
    - mindfulness breath meditations
    - simple breathing exercises to help reduce stress and promote relaxation
This series will be particularly suitable for those interested in
becoming more familiar with their natural breath, to increase breathing capacity,and to find ways to quiet and calm the mind.

This 3 hour experiential workshop is designed to help you feel the energy flow in your own body. Journeying through the main energy channels can help to open blockages or contain areas where too much energy is escaping.
